MEET THE DOCTOR
Dr. Joseph Yazdi
He earned his medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine and completed his neurosurgery residency at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia and Rutgers University in New Jersey.
Since 2008, he has provided neurosurgical care to patients throughout Southern Illinois and the St. Louis region. In 2018, he established Arch Neurosurgery to deliver comprehensive, patient-focused neurosurgical care. Dr. Yazdi’s clinical focus includes traumatic brain injury (TBI), including concussion management, cervical and lumbar spine pathology, chronic pain syndromes, and dementia.
Advanced, individualized treatment for complex neurological conditions.
Concussion is classified as a mild traumatic brain injury, its sequelae may be significant and persistent, including headaches, cervical pain, cognitive impairment, vestibular dysfunction, mood disturbance, and sleep disruption.
He employs a multimodal treatment strategy tailored to the individual patient, incorporating pharmacologic management, interventional procedures, cognitive, vestibular, and ocular rehabilitation, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and peptide-based therapies when appropriate.
Dementia involves a slow process of neuronal dysfunction in various parts of the brain. This results in patients losing their identity and the ability to take care of themselves. Some families are forced to place their loved ones in memory care centers at tremendous expense, yet the treatments don’t reverse the pattern or slow the disease. Using a combination of peptides, exosomes, and TMS, Dr. Yazdi has been successful in his endeavors to attenuate the progression of dementia.
ADVANCED SPINE TREATMENT
Specialized care for cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine disorders.
Dr. Yazdi provides both operative and non-operative management of cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine disorders, including degenerative, congenital, and traumatic conditions. To facilitate continuity of care and optimize outcomes, Dr. Yazdi performs in-office interventional pain procedures such as epidural steroid injections and facet joint blocks.
He has performed thousands of spinal procedures and is experienced in advanced surgical techniques, including cervical disc arthroplasty, lumbar laminectomy, discectomy, spinal fusion, kyphoplasty, and minimally invasive spine surgery. He also treats peripheral nerve entrapment syndromes, including carpal tunnel syndrome and ulnar nerve compression.
Advanced Therapies. Better Outcomes
In addition to conventional neurosurgical and interventional approaches, Dr. Yazdi integrates regenerative medicine therapies into select treatment plans. These include Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and Wharton’s jelly–derived exosome therapy to support tissue healing in degenerative or traumatic conditions affecting the spine and joints, such as knees, shoulders, and hips. Our goal is to improve function and, when possible, delay or avoid surgical intervention.
Dr. Yazdi is committed to evidence-informed practice and individualized care, guiding patients toward the most appropriate treatment strategy based on their diagnosis, clinical presentation, and long-term goals. Outside of his clinical practice, he enjoys spending time with his 4 kids and maintains an active lifestyle. He enjoys physical fitness, cycling, chess, various board and card games, and scuba diving.
